Memorial Day

We attended the memorial day celebration in Larimore this morning after taking flowers to loved ones graves at the Larimore cemetary. We ate lunch at the legion picnic then took off for home. I decided to get a short run in as I wanted to run with the group at Turtle River park for running day on Wednesday then rest Thurs and Friday to be ready to run the 2-5K's at the Dewey Duathlon in Grand Forks on Saturday.
There was a light mist and a good breeze on the run and the temp was about 55F. The road was muddy. I warmed up with the calf roller and did some skips, high knees and hamstring kicks then ran the first mile at around 8:30 then sped up on the second mile and let loose on the third for a 6:25 mile. I cooled down with a 7:45 mile at the end with some walking and dynamic stretches. Stretched the calf and rolled my feet with the foot message ball.

Posting again

I am going to try to document my training for the Twin Cities Marathon on October 2. I am now training for the Dewy Duathlon next Saturday in the Team competition. I will be running two 5k's in the event. I have been recovering from my annual calf muscle injury. I will try to be much better about my warm ups and cool downs and stretching. Yesterday Brendan and I ran 3 miles at about an 8:30 pace, then we walked 2 miles with the rest of the family. I have been doing some cross training (biking) on my off running days.

Weekly training

I had a good week of training. Last Saturday I ran with the Red River Runners in Grand Forks. We ran a fast 15.5 miles @ 7:50/miles. On Monday I ran some speed work 1 mile warm up then 1x1600 @ 6:19 then 1x3200 @ 12:41 then 1 mile cool. Tuesday I rode the bike trainer 30 min. Wed brought pace work 1mile warm then 4 miles @ 7:20 then 1 mile cool. Thursday back on the bike for 40 min. Saturday I ran the first of my 2-3 20 milers. It was quite windy and cool but I managed to make it in 2hrs 45 min. The last 2.5 into the teeth of a 20mph wind.
Today is rest and eat day for Easter. Back at it Monday.

Pace Run

I ran after work today. My back was a bit stiff but less painful than previously. I ran 2 miles of warm up then 4 miles at approx. 7/mile. My total time was faster than the Frozen feat time I posted this winter. My hemoglobin has been low because of ulcers in my stomach. I have been taking medication for the ulcers and iron to bring my iron stores back to normal. I think I have had the ulcers for about 2 years. I noticed quite a bit of reflux during running for the last year but I thought it was from sinuses or something else. My times and stamina have improved so I have a feeling my Hb has risen close to normal. I will need to take iron for another 3-4 months and have another upper endoscopy in a month. I should be able to proceed with my training for Fargo as usual next week. I will try a 12-13 miler this weekend.

Test Run

I ran a 3 mile test run today in 22:41. Not too bad, my back felt a little stiff so I did not push the mileage. I will probably try to run another short one tomorrow and then if everything is ok work my way back to my training plan. I need to get in 3-20 mile run in the next 8-9 weeks.

Start again and Sciatica

I am going to try to blog again as I have about 2 months left of training for the Fargo Marathon. I have taken the week off from running. I was lifting a garbage pail in the basement, not realizing it was full of water and wet magazines I just lifted and my lower back went out. I think it is sciatica and muscle spasms. I have been walking and biking which helps. I have also started with good intentions more stretching for my hamstrings and pisiformis. I will probably bike for a couple of more days and then test out the running either tomorrow or Wed. I don't think I have lost much fitness but I am getting anxious to get out and run again.

Week of training

I have had a good week of training so far despite the cold temps. Days have been below 0 on my 2 runs. I have had to pick and choose the least windy days. I ran some speed work on Tuesday with 10X400's @ about 1:30. Monday and Thursday I put in 30 min each night on my bike trainer. Friday it was about -15F as I ran some pace work with 1 mile warm and cool and 3 miles@ a bit less than 7:00/mile. Hopefully I can get my third run in on Sunday which will be somewhere between 6-8 miles depending on the windchills. I have decided to start training for the full marathon in Fargo May 22nd. I will run a 16 week training schedule running 3 days/week and try to add 2 days of cross training on my bike trainer.
